Pakistani Defence Minister visits Turkish Aerospace Industries

ANKARA, 1 March 2013: Pakistan’s Federal Defence Minister Syed Naveed Qamar and his accompanying defence delegation, who is visiting Turkey at the invitation of his Turkish counterpart, visited Turkish Aerospace Industries (TAI) near Ankara today. Syed Naveed Qamar discussed potential areas for cooperation in various fields. Possibilities of local production, co-production, and transfer of technology for defence related products according to needs of the two countries were also discussed during the visit.

President and Chief Executive Officer of TAI, Mr. Muharrem Dortkaşli and his colleagues briefed the visiting delegation about the main areas of activities of TAI. Progress on existing defence related projects between Turkey and Pakistan was also reviewed. The delegation later on visited the facilities of aircraft manufacturing, overhauling, and were shown a demonstration of T129 attack helicopter developed by TAI.

Turkish Defence Minister Mr. Ismet Yilmaz and Pakistan Ambassador to Turkey Mr. Muhammad Haroon Shaukat were also present.

The visiting Pakistani delegation offered Juma prayers at the historic Haji Bayram Mosque at Ankara. After the prayers, the Pakistani Defence Minister held a brief meeting with the Turkish Foreign Minister Prof. Dr. Ahmet Davutoğlu.
